The Project involves: The construction of a new 854 metre quay wall, designed to accommodate up to 13,500 TEU vessels. In-filling 17 hectares of newly created land-mass, doubling the current container capacity of the Port of Liverpool. Dredging a new 16.5 metre deep, 62 metre wide berthing pocket. Undertaking the dredging of the approach channel to 8 metres below chart datum. Installation of ship to shore quay side cranes. Provision of Cantilevered Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes (c-RMG’s). Supporting infrastructure works.
The Client, Peel Ports required support in connection with the procurement of all the main packages of work including the appointment of a Principal Contractor to oversee the works, a Quay Wall Contractor to undertake the marine based quay wall construction and land reclamation, and a Dredging Contactor. Additional packages of works including the Quayside cranes also needed procuring via an negotiated OJEJ procedure.
Walker Sime were able to support Peel Port in achieving it’s objectives of procuring the major works packages in line with the OJEU procurement rules and within very demanding timescales. Value for money was ensured by driving a competitive negotiated procedure, whilst also taking consideration of the complex Engineering challenges of such a large infrastructure project, within demanding environmental and tidal river conditions.
