Liverpool Office
September saw the opening of our Liverpool Office, at Stanley Hall on Edmund Street. Some existing Walker Sime projects had seen us operating in and around the Merseyside area for some time, with our Clients Frogmore and Maghull, and the impetus to set up a permanent base was seen as strategic in the growth of the business overall. Sustainability
The issue of sustainability is one that is on the agenda of all developers and consultants at the present, with the need for building design to reflect the need to reduce our impact on the environment. More info

Utility Consultancy
In September 2007 Walker Sime launched its new Utilities Consultancy business. Many developers experience problems with utilities. More info

Internal Promotions
The successful rapid growth of Walker Sime has proved a need to strengthen the skills of the management team and as a result we are pleased to announce some internal promotions as below:

Walker Sime Sent to Coventry
Walker Sime has received confirmation that they will be Quantity Surveyors for Modus Developments on their £110M redevelopment of West Orchard Shopping Centre in Coventry. The project will provide 500,000 sq ft of refurbished and new retail space and will be constructed over 3 phases. The first phase, which includes a new store for M&S, is due to commence in the first quarter of 2009.

Promoting Staff Well Being – 10k Challenge
Derek and Babs Walker would like to thank all those for their generous support in sponsoring the 10k Run at Tatton Park on the September 23rd in aid of Cancer Research. More info

Bede House Completion
Summer of 2007 saw the completion of the refurbishment of Bede and Cuthbert House in central Newcastle (right). The £1.5m project for Commercial Estates Group included window replacement, façade refurbishment, refurbishment of the landlord’s areas, an office fit out and improvements to external works areas.

City Park Start on Site
On 3rd September 2007 the prestigious office development known as City Park started on site. The 187,000 sq ft office will take 108 weeks to complete. The project has been let under a JCT 2005 Design and Build Contract and Walker Sime are the Employer’s Agent for Development Securities.

New Appointments
A warm welcome to our new starters:

Mike Flynn joined us at the beginning of October. He joins us as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor and we will be supporting him through his studies at Salford University.

Gareth Jackson joined us at the beginning of October. He joins us as Quantity Surveyor and he is currently carrying out a conversion course at the College of Estate Management.

Exam Passes for Assistants
We sponsor several Assistant Quantity Surveyors who are currently at various stages of studying their BSc (Hons). We would like to congratulate them for successfully passing their individual year exams. Well done to Paul O’hara, Tom Maguire, Daniel Roberts keep up the good work.
