The role of a Quantity Surveyor can best be summed up as a custodian of cost on a building or civil engineering project. While the phrase ‘no two days are the same’ can be used to describe various job roles, in the case of a Quantity Surveyor this couldn’t be a more accurate statement.

It is possible to work anywhere in the world with quantity surveyor qualifications. However, in Manchester and beyond our projects span the likes of hotels, industrial units, tourist attractions, retail complexes, residential developments, airport expansions, renewable energy, leisure facilities and much more.

A Quantity Surveyor will work between the office and on-site, their main responsibilities are not limited to but include:

  • Attend Client briefing meetings alongside the Senior/Principal/Associate Director
  • Review current scope of works
  • Cost planning preparation including inputting, measuring, issuing and presenting
  • Review contractors proposals in detail including costs and quantities
  • Clarify and issue tender addendums if required
  • Meet contractors and discuss their proposals and our role
  • Review, query and agree contract sum
  • Prepare contract documents and ensure the contractors understand the importance of these
  • Ensure the contract documentation is signed and in place before commencement on site
  • Run and manage the projects from conception to completion, ensuring control of costs on the scheme on behalf of the client
