Walker Sime were commissioned as Project Managers on behalf of Wakefield Council to deliver Minsthorpe Leisure Centre in Wakefield.
The £5 million build consists of a 25-metre swimming pool, gym/ studio, changing village and management/ reception area. The key challenges we endured during this project were progressing through the design stages whilst also considering the tight budget constraints. This was supported by value engineering at each stage to ensure the Council budget was not exceeded whilst also striving to achieve the aggressive programme.
Our scope of services included full-time project management services provided, through RIBA 0-7, the role of Project Director (Duncan Firth) with Chris Bishop as Project Manager. This not only included the day to day co-ordination of the project but also as Project Manager under the NEC3 Contract.
We added value into this project as members of the Project Management team worked on various NEC contracts and multiple leisure centres. Whilst working on Minsthorpe Leisure Centre we managed the stakeholders very well and engaged with community regularly.
