Corporate Social Responsibility

Here at Walker Sime, we take Corporate Social Responsibility very seriously, placing specific focus on Charity, Community, Environment & Employee Well-Being.

We take pride that we support charities close to our hearts. To name a few, in 2017 we have fundraised for Wirral Hospice St. Johns, and Coffee4Craig, which provides support for the homeless community in Manchester. We also took part in the JLL Property Triathlon North, which supported JLL Property’s corporate charity, Crisis and Peels Group’s charity, the Christie. Dez Walker, Managing Director, and Simon Lynch undertook the 2017 Barcelona Ironman to fundraise for the Christie and the Ronald McDonald House.

We regularly participate in career events and talks at local schools throughout the year, such as Saddleworth School, Crompton House, St, Wilfred’s Sixth Form and St. Bede’s Catholic College. This supports the RICS “Surveying the Future” initiative, which helps inspire students to pursue a career in Quantity Surveying. We have provided work experience placements to students who have approached Walker Sime at these events. In addition, we support colleagues in their participation with local charities and events, such as giving blood.

We also do what we can to help our environment, this includes:

  • Cycling to work scheme. We were recently awarded a grant through TFGM to install a new bike shelter in our Manchester office.
  • We have purchased a recycling bin for plastics, tins and glass.
  • All members of staff are committed to our Environmental Policy.

Employee Well-Being

We value our people. We care about their health and wellbeing. In 2017, we achieved full accreditation of the Workplace Wellbeing Charter in both our Manchester and Liverpool offices, which is a nationally recognised award. It helps us to ensure we are not only compliant with the law in Health & Safety, but it also allows us to follow best practice and enables us to promote health and wellbeing in the following areas:

  • Leadership
  • Absence Management
  • Health & Safety
  • Mental Health
  • Smoking
  • Physical Activity
  • Healthy Eating
  • Alcohol & Substance Misuse
